ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – Residents of Fall Creek Ranch near Ashland were told last night to leave their homes as a fast-moving fire grew rapidly, fueled by swirling winds and extremely dry conditions. The Oregon Department of Forestry says the fire has burned about 8 square miles in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument and has moved across the state line into California.

FRIDAY HARBOR, Wash. (AP) – Authorities have expanded their search for a missing Dundee woman to Washington’s San Juan Islands. San Juan County Sheriff Rom Nou (noh) told KOMO that detectives in Oregon told him Jennifer Huston may be in the San Juans or on her way there. Her family says she had spent time in the San Juans in the past. Huston was last seen last July 24.

WILSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon is cutting back on Medicaid patients’ access to an expensive new drug for hepatitis C patients. The drug, Sovaldi, costs $1,000 per pill. Oregon’s new guidelines allow the drug to be used only for patients with later stages of liver damage who have been drug-free for at least six months. The drug could only be prescribed by a liver or gastrointestinal specialist.

COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – The Coos County major crimes team is investigating the death of an 18-year-old man who jumped off a bridge yesterday as a sheriff’s deputy was attempting to arrest him. District Attorney Paul Frasier says it’s not known whether Leon Williams Jr., of North Bend, was trying to escape the deputy or committing suicide.
