EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A Lane County jury has indicted a 42-year-old Eugene man on charges that he killed two acquaintances and set fire to their rural home at Creswell. The Register-Guard reports that Eugene Whitehall pleaded not guilty to the charges. He could face the death penalty if he is convicted of murdering Dennis Kelley and Carl McFarland on July 16.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — A federal agency says it will release extra water into Northern California’s Klamath and Trinity rivers once salmon start dying from drought-related disease, but not before. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation said the decision came after consulting with tribes, irrigators and other agencies. Fisheries biologist Joshua Strange of Stillwater Sciences says that will be too late because of a parasite known as Ich (ICK), which attacks fish in stagnant water.

SILVERTON, Ore. (AP) — A 22-year-old man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting a man in a Silverton home. Marion County prosecutors say Uriah Mckinley pleaded guilty to murder, robbery, and other charges. The victim was identified as 30-year-old Jeffrey Lamoreaux. He died of gunshot wounds of the head.

SEASIDE, Ore. (AP) — A 2-year-old voucher program that allowed homeless people to get free hot showers at the city pool in Seaside has come to an end. Police Chief Bob Gross tells the Daily Astorian some people who got $2 vouchers for showers were drug users and registered sex offenders, creating a risk for children and other vulnerable people.
