CLEVELAND (AP) – Corey Kluber had three-hitter to outpitch Felix Hernandez for his first career shutout, Yan Gomes had a two-run double and the Cleveland Indians beat the Seattle Mariners 2-0 last night. The matchup between two of the top pitchers in the American League lived up to its billing. Kluber (11-6) held the Mariners to three singles and no walks while striking out eight.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Reliever Jean Machi and the San Francisco Giants took advantage of a huge baserunning blunder by Pittsburgh, tagging out two runners who wandered away on the same play and beating the Pirates 7-5 yesterday to end a six-game losing streak. San Francisco stopped a skid that matched its longest of the season, and avoided the club’s first winless homestand of at least seven games in the 15-year history of AT&T Park.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed veteran guard Mo Williams. The Wolves reached agreement with the free agent from Portland on Monday and made the announcement Wednesday. Williams gets a one-year, $3.75 million contract to serve as the primary backup to point guard Ricky Rubio. Williams averaged 9.7 points for the Trail Blazers last season.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – A youth-only fishing day is scheduled to take place Saturday at the Homer Spit. Officials with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game say the sport fishing area for youngsters will be held in a section of the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon.
