PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Federal officials say a relatively small number of the unaccompanied immigrant children who have been flooding into the United States have been sent to Oregon, Washington state and Idaho over the past six months. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says 50 immigrant children were released to sponsors in Oregon between January 1 and July 7. Sponsors can include relatives, family friends, or foster parents. Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber said the state welcomes the children.

CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon murder suspect who was wearing a wreath of twigs and a bright yellow loincloth when he was arrested this week did not offer any explanation for his attire. The Grants Pass Daily Courier reports that 44-year-old Daniel Martinson turned himself in Wednesday at a southern Oregon food bank. Martinson’s accused of fatally stabbing a man.

BOARDMAN, Ore. (AP) – Police say a second man has died while working on an Eastern Oregon highway this week. Oregon State Police say 64-year-old Glen McCoy of Sparks, Nevada, died late Wednesday on Interstate 84 near Boardman. McCoy was run over by a pickup operated by another employee that had a piece of equipment in tow.

MILTON-FREEWATER, Ore. (AP) – Police in Milton-Freewater are looking for two suspects who tackled a man, bound him with tape and then stole a car. Authorities say the 59-year-old victim was working on a vehicle in his shop when the robbery occurred. The victim suffered facial injuries.
