Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Seattle’s Felix Hernandez will start tonight’s All-Star game for the American League and Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals will open for the National League. Hernandez, the first Venezuela pitcher to start for the All-Stars, is 11-2 with a 2.12 ERA. He is just the second Seattle pitcher to start an All-Star game following Randy Johnson in 1995 and 1997.

SEATTLE (AP) – After 22½ years in the dreary Kingdome, Seattle finally played a home game outdoors, moving into a $517.6 million ballpark with a retractable roof on July 15, 1999. Jose Mesa wasted a ninth-inning lead by walking four batters and the Mariners lost 3-2 to the San Diego Padres in Safeco Field’s opener.

DUPONT, Wash. (AP) – Cindy Ha shot a 5-under-par 67 for the first-round lead yesterday at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship. The 17-year-old Ha, from Demarest, New Jersey, had seven birdies and two bogeys on the 6,169-yard, par-72 Home Course. It’s her third appearance in the tournament. Last year’s girls junior champion Gabriella Then was one stroke back. She was followed at 69 by Annie Park, a member of the victorious American team in this year’s Curtis Cup and the co-medalist at the 2013 Public Links.
