SEATTLE (AP) – Minnesota’s Phil Hughes pitched into the eighth inning, Sam Fuld barely cleared the wall with his second home run of the season and the Twins beat the Seattle Mariners 2-0 last night. Fuld hit a 3-2 pitch from Seattle starter Chris Young (8-5) beyond the wall in right and just out of the reach of Saunders for the solo shot in the fifth inning. It was the first homer for Fuld since April 10. He finished with three hits and two stolen bases.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Mariners have recalled catcher Jesus Sucre to take the roster spot opened when John Buck was designated for assignment. Sucre was recalled yesterday and in uniform for Seattle’s game against Minnesota. Buck was designated following Monday night’s game in a surprise move by the Marinres.

DETROIT (AP) – Justin Verlander settled down after a terrible first inning and the Detroit Tigers rallied in emphatic fashion for a 14-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers last night. Verlander (8-7) allowed five runs in the first, but the Dodgers managed only one more hit off the Detroit right-hander.
