Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Eugene police got warrants to draw blood from one of nine drivers arrested on impaired driving charges during a “no refusal” crackdown July 4. The authorities had prosecutors, a judge and blood technicians on standby to get quick warrants for blood draws when drunken driving suspects refused breath tests on Independence Day. Under Oregon law, drivers who refuse a breath test lose their licenses for a year, but may be able to escape a harsher penalty in court.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A power outage allowed students at the Oregon City campus of Clackamas Community College to leave class and enjoy the sunshine. The lights went out yesterday and classes were canceled until power returned. Employees were told to stay on campus during the outage and avoid dimly lit areas.

GOLD BEACH, Ore. (AP) – A southern Oregon sheriff says he’s leaving his job, citing the physical stress of budget cuts and dwindling department resources. KDRV-TV report that Curry County Sheriff John Bishop says the stress is taking too great a toll on his health. KDRV notes that several deputies have left the sheriff’s office to take jobs in other departments.

GLADSTONE, Ore. (AP) – Police who heard gunfire inside a Gladstone home when they arrived to check on a person’s welfare say officers have found a man dead inside of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. A tactical negotiation team was called from nearby Washington County before officers entered the home.
