PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The deadline for initiative campaigns to submit the required number of petition signatures is here. Most campaigns submit signatures ahead of deadline day. Two issues have already qualified for the ballot. Voters will be asked whether to support the Oregon Equal Rights Amendment and whether to grant driving privileges to people who can’t prove they’re legally in the U.S.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Two railroads say they ran a total of three oil train cars per week through Oregon’s most populous county. The records show how much crude oil from the Bakken region of North Dakota, Montana and parts of Canada was carried by train car through Oregon. The records were released after a month-long battle over the records between media outlets that requested them and Oregon public officials, who said the material was protected by federal law.

GASTON, Ore. (AP) – A helicopter pilot who got 20 feet into the air on a run to drop mosquito treatment in a Washington County log pond near Henry Haag Lake has walked away from a crash with only minor injuries. The pilot was identified as 31-year-old Warren Larson of Cloverdale, California. Authorities say the helicopter was demolished.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Fighting among inmates at the Oregon State Penitentiary dining hall has led to a lockdown. A Corrections Department statement says about 30 people were involved, and nobody was hurt so badly as to require treatment outside the prison. No information on what caused it was immediately available.
