PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a man has been shot dead in north Portland. Residents say they heard multiple shots and then saw a man collapsed in the street. Police identify the victim of the shooting yesterday afternoon as Andrew Leon Coggins Jr. Relatives tell The Oregonian that he lived in southeast Portland. Suspects are being sought.

BANDON, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a San Francisco woman and a Bandon, Oregon, man have died in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 101 north of Bandon on the southern Oregon coast. Troopers say a southbound car driven by the Oregon man crossed into the northbound lane and collided with the woman’s car yesterday afternoon. Both died.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A southern Oregon man accused of stealing valuable packages when he worked as a FedEx driver has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison. The Medford Mail Tribune reports that Victor Manuel Chavez was sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty to theft and money laundering. The newspaper says federal investigators believe cash and loot taken in the scheme total about $200,000.

CORNELIUS, Ore. (AP) – A Texas grower says it’s closing a nursery near Cornelius and laying off 100 people. The Oregonian reports that the Berry Family of Nurseries revealed the closure yesterday in a mandatory notification to Oregon state officials. The newspaper says BFN will be the second Cornelius-area nursery to lay off dozens of workers this year. Glenn Walters Nursery cut 118 jobs.
