COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – The foster mother of an Oregon woman whose remains were found in a suitcase dropped along a rural road in Wisconsin says she hadn’t heard from her foster daughter for more than a year. Wisconsin authorities say Jenny Gamez is the second of two women whose bodies were found. A 52-year-old security officer has been arrested in connection with their deaths.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s candidates for U.S. Senate are taking differing views of the Supreme Court’s decision on insurance coverage for contraceptives. The high court ruled that some companies with religious objections can avoid the federal contraceptives requirement. Democratic incumbent Jeff Merkley denounced the decision, and called the ruling an intrusion into personal health options. Republican Monica Wehby’s campaign manager says Wehby there isn’t a problem as long as every woman has access to contraception through other means.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A TriMet spokeswoman says crews are trying to troubleshoot the problem that led to a power outage and delayed light-rail trains throughout the Portland region. The Oregonian reports the disruption in the downtown area backed up TriMet trains in the suburbs. All the lines were running by midafternoon.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police have moved a protester attached to a plastic drum full of concrete off of a railroad track at a Portland oil terminal and arrested her. She was identified as 22-year-old Irene Milsom of Portland, a member of Portland Rising Tide. The group said its point is that burning fossil fuels causes harm to communities.
