Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Mariners defeated the San Diego Padres 5-1 last night. Kyle Seager hit a three-run homer in the first inning, Brad Miller added a solo shot, and Seattle’s Chris Young threw six shutout innings against his former team. Robinson Cano added an RBI double as Seattle scored all five runs in the first two innings.

SEATTLE (AP) – Tony Gwynn, a Hall of Famer and one of the greatest athletes in San Diego’s history, died yesterday of oral cancer, a disease he attributed to years of chewing tobacco. He was 54. The Mariners honored Gwynn with a moment of silence before yesterday’s game and his number, “19,” was spread in the dirt between the shortstop and third baseman – the spot Gwynn sent many of his 3,141 hits through.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Dee Gordon had four hits, including a triple that was misplayed into four bases by left fielder Charlie Blackmon, and Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched six strong innings to help the Los Angeles Dodgers beat Colorado 6-1 last night and snap the Rockies’ season-best five-game winning streak. Ryu (8-3) allowed a run and three hits in six innings and struck out six in his 13th start.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks have finalized their signing of veteran defensive tackle Kevin Williams and added running back Demitrius Bronson to their roster ahead of this week’s minicamp. Seattle made the roster moves yesterday. The Seahawks begin their three-day mandatory minicamp today.
