Cron homered to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners last night. Ernesto Frieri pitched the ninth for his seventh save, but the Mariners made it interesting. Robinson Cano hit a two-out run scoring single, and Justin Smoak walked before Kyle Seager ended the game with a deep fly to left-center field.
NEW YORK (AP) – Sugar Rodgers scored a career-high 15 points, including seven in the final 3 minutes, to lead the New York Liberty to a 70-64 victory over the Seattle Storm last night. New York scored the final 11 points of the game, including five by Rodgers. Bird led Seattle (1-4) with 21 points, including 17 in the first half. Crystal Langhorne added 13 points and 15 rebounds.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Apparently Earl Thomas’ $40 million extension with the Seattle Seahawks did not mean fewer responsibilities on his plate. Next up for the All-Pro free safety may be punt returning. Seattle coach Pete Carroll said that Thomas would be the first up as punt returner right now.
