PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A stolen military metal has been found and returned to a Portland widow. KATU-TV reports thieves took the medal awarded to George Szimonisz, as well as family pictures and documents, from a home storage unit two years ago. Yesterday, a couple contacted the TV station to say they had found the medal with the veteran’s name engraved on it at a storage unit auction. KATU found Szimonisz’s wife, Carol, and delivered the medal and other items on Memorial Day.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland woman is suing her yoga studio and a glass company after she suffered serious injuries when a mirror fell on her during class. Lindsey Eltinge says she had her eyes closed when the mirror fell in January, and couldn’t understand why she was in such pain. The Oregonian reports the mirror shattered across her body, sending a shard of glass through one of her ankles that severed a nerve and required emergency surgery. Her medical bills ran up to $40,000. She is seeking $455,000.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A union of graduate student teachers at the University of Oregon has voted to authorize a strike while negotiations with the administration stall. The Eugene Register-Guard reports the graduate students’ last contract expired March 31. Major issues such as wages and health care costs remain unsettled. A strike wouldn’t take place until the fall.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon State Beavers are the No. 1 national seed in baseball’s postseason for the first time in school history. The Beavers will host UNLV, UC Irvine and North Dakota State in the Corvallis Regional this weekend at Goss Stadium to kick off the NCAA tournament.
