PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge in Oregon says an immigrant woman’s constitutional rights were violated when she was held in jail without probable cause at the request of U.S. immigration authorities. It’s one of several recent rulings saying that local officials are not required to honor immigration authorities’ requests to hold someone even though their original charges were resolved or they are eligible for bail.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Gresham police say a Homeland Security officer escaped injury when he grabbed on to a car that tried to drive away from an accident last night. The driver crashed a second time, and fled on foot but was tracked down with the help of a police dog and arrested. The Homeland Security officer says he identified himself and was trying to take the driver’s keys.

INDEPENDENCE, Ore. (AP) – An 18-year-old woman driving a car out of a parking lot was killed when it collided with another car yesterday afternoon in Independence. Police say five other people were hurt, including a, 8-year-old boy who was critically injured. He was taken to Salem Hospital.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Pepsi distributor will pay the University of Oregon nearly $5 million in cash or discounts over the next eight years to be the university’s dominant soft drink supplier. Documents obtained by The Register-Guard through a public records request show the new contract between the university and Eugene Pepsi distributor Bigfoot Beverages will give Pepsi products 80 percent of the soft drink cooler space on campus.
