PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Two suspects in a burglary that led to the fatal shooting of a Portland police dog and the wounding of the dog’s handler have been booked into jail. A third suspect remains under police guard in a hospital. The Oregonian reports he suffered a head wound and dog bites. The dog’s handler has been released from a hospital.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Reports to the state show the volume of oil hauled on railroads in Oregon increased last year to more than 11 million barrels, up from about 3 million barrels in 2012. The Oregonian reports most of the tanker cars are moved through Portland to a terminal near Clatskanie that loads oil on barges bound for West Coast refineries.

RIDDLE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Congressman Peter DeFazio has toured an abandoned copper mine in southwestern Oregon that is on the Superfund list of major pollution sites in preparation for filing legislation to overhaul the nation’s primary mining law. DeFazio acknowledges the bill has little chance of passage this year in the Republican-controlled House, but says he wants to raise awareness about how the current system costs taxpayers billions of dollars.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers face the Houston Rockets in the opening round of the NBA playoffs set for Sunday night in Houston. The Blazers haven’t been to the playoffs since the 2011, when they fell in six games to the Mavericks in the first round. The Blazers won nine of their final 10 games and wrapped up the regular season with a five-game winning streak.
