MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A retired Marine has been convicted of killing his wife after a Medford, Ore., jury rejected his testimony that she shot herself. Jurors deliberated throughout the day before reaching a verdict in the case of 45-year-old Bourne Huddleston. He was convicted of murder and related counts in the March 23, 2012, death of 34-year-old Kristy Huddleston.

UMATILLA, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon Corrections Department spokeswoman says a northeast Oregon prison is on lockdown after a fight involving two dozen inmates broke out yesterday in a housing unit. She says 24 inmates who were involved have been placed in special housing. No word yet on what prompted the fight.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge has blocked the Portland schools from suspending a student lacrosse player for violating the drug-and-alcohol policy. The Oregonian reports Wilson High School administrators said the 17-year-old gave another student $10 to buy alcohol for an upcoming party. His parents said the discipline was based on inconclusive text messages between students off school grounds and after school hours. The boy said he changed his mind the next day about the party and got his money back.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – With an economic recovery underway, students are going into the workforce instead of Lane Community College classrooms, and enrollment has dropped by nearly a third. President Mary Spilde tells the Eugene Register-Guard that means a budget shortfall, and it could get large enough to warrant layoffs of faculty and staff members.
