PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – At least 71 Oregon cities have moratoriums on medical marijuana dispensaries and more than 40 others are considering one. The Oregonian reports the list of cities does not include Portland, Bend or Eugene. The Legislature allowed local governments to impose a one-year ban, if enacted by May 1.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Salem rheumatologist received more money from Medicare in 2012 than any other doctor in Oregon. Medicare data released last week shows Dr. Rebecca Callis received $2.7 million. She billed for nearly 115,000 services for 547 patients. Callis told the Statesman Journal that she didn’t know why her numbers were so much higher than other rheumatologists.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Three teenage boys are facing charges in an arson fire at a Eugene middle school. Police say the boys climbed to the roof of Kennedy Middle School on Sunday and set pine needles on fire. Authorities tell The Register-Guard that the boys tried to extinguish the fire and damage was minor. The boys were released to their parents.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Tuesday is federal income tax day, of course. In Portland it’s also arts tax day. It’s the deadline for the $35 arts tax that was approved in 2012 by voters. The tax is designed to raise $12 million a year for art and music teachers and related groups and projects. Failing to pay the arts tax brings a penalty of an additional $35.
