FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a man arrested at a Forest Grove, Ore., used car business after a robbery attempt and an eight-hour police standoff previously served time in Washington state for second-degree murder. Gregory Jay Glanville was arrested early yesterday at K&S Wholesale. He’s been jailed for investigation of attempted murder, robbery and unlawful use of a weapon. The Oregonian reports that Washington Corrections Department spokesman Will Mader says Glanville was convicted in Thurston County in July 1978 and served time until 1988, when he was paroled.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police detectives are investigating the death of a 66-year-old man whose body was found in the back of a burning pickup truck on a dirt road west of Klamath Falls. Lt. Gregg Hastings says Rocky Point firefighters responded Wednesday to a reported vehicle fire. Once the fire was out, they found the man’s body in the charred truck bed. The man has been identified as Joseph E. Huntstiger of Klamath Falls.

UMATILLA, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Corrections Department says a 53-year-old inmate at a state prison in northeast Oregon died unexpectedly yesterday. The agency says Dean Wayne Guiley was found unresponsive at about 7 a.m. in his housing unit at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla. He was pronounced dead a short time later. The Oregon State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the death.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A fire spokesman says one person has been found dead after a house fire yesterday afternoon in southwest Portland. Portland Fire & Rescue Lt. Rich Chatman says firefighters found heavy fire and smoke coming from a single-family residence and heard reports than an elderly man was still inside. Fire crews started an immediate search and found the dead person. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire, which was confined to one room.
