SEATTLE (AP) – CenturyLink technicians are scrambling to get 911 emergency phone service restored in Washington state after the service went out early this morning. A spokeswoman says the problem began about 1:30 a.m. at Sheridan, Ore., and Oregon was affected for a time. It has since been restored in Oregon, but service remains out in Washington.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – An attempted robbery at a Forest Grove used car business that turned into a police standoff ended early today with the arrest of the suspect. Police say they responded to a robbery in progress yesterday afternoon when a man with a rifle was seen walking into K&S Auto Sales. Police say shots were fired in a struggle with the owner who escaped with minor injuries. A woman and child also escaped. Police eventually used chemical agents to force him out about 1 a.m.

LAKESIDE, Ore. (AP) – Coos County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Lakeside man accused of striking his girlfriend with a sledgehammer. The World newspaper reports 43-year-old Jeffery K. Waight has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon, domestic assault, domestic menacing and interfering with 911.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Dorell Wright hit a 3-pointer with 7.9 seconds left and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the late-charging Sacramento Kings 100-99 last night. It was Wright’s only basket of the game. LaMarcus Aldridge had 22 points to lead the Blazers, who have won six of their past seven games.
