SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s troubled health insurance exchange says more than 200,000 people have now signed up for health coverage through Cover Oregon. Numbers released yesterday show that just under 59,000 people have signed up for coverage from a private insurance company. The rest enrolled in the Oregon Health Plan, the state’s version of Medicaid, a publicly funded health plan for people with low income.
GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Six major producers of herbicides and genetically modified crops are shoveling $380,000 into the campaign to defeat measures that would prohibit genetically modified crops in southwestern Oregon. The contributions from companies including Dow AgroSciences and Monsanto means the political action committee working to defeat measures in Josephine and Jackson counties has roughly $450,000 in the kitty.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A southern Oregon grand jury took less than five minutes to decide that four officers were justified in wounding two Idaho fugitives after a pursuit in Medford, Ore. The Jackson County grand jury also returned indictments yesterday against Wayne Pearson and Shavon Willard on a series of counts. District Attorney Beth Heckert says the four officers fired at least 39 rounds on March 6 after Pearson is accused of ramming an occupied police vehicle.
LA CENTER, Wash. (AP) – The Clark County sheriff’s office says an older couple has died in a murder-suicide shooting at a home near La Center. Deputies were called to the home Monday by a man who had not heard from his mother for several days. The sheriff’s office says evidence indicates 71-year-old Milton “Wayne” Allen shot 70-year-old Fay Marie Allen and then took his own life.
