EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Police in Eugene say they’re checking several recent, unsolved crimes for possible links to a man suspected in a day-long crime spree that killed a California sheriff’s deputy and an elderly Eugene man. Ricardo Chaney was killed in a March 19 shootout with a Fort Bragg, Calif., police officer. The Register-Guard reports Eugene police said yesterday that one case under review is a March 11 armed robbery at an adult shop.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon man has been sentenced to life in prison for the beating deaths of his father and his father’s girlfriend. Johan Gillette could have received the death penalty at yesterday’s sentencing. He will have no chance for parole. Gillette claimed he acted in self-defense when his father reached for a gun during an argument at their home south of Eugene.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Short-term and long-term parking garage rates at Portland International Airport will increase $3 per day beginning April 1. The Port of Portland says it hopes the rate increases encourage more use of the airport’s economy parking lot, easing demand on the parking garages that are often full mid-week.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The Orlando Magic beat the Portland Trail Blazers 95-85 last night to stop a nine-game losing streak. Tobias Harris had 25 points and 11 rebounds for the Magic and Robin Lopez led Portland with 20 points and 13 rebounds. The Blazers, who entered the night in fifth place in the West, have lost three straight.
