SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Felix Hernandez pitched five innings and rookie Stefen Romero homered, leading the Seattle Mariners to a 9-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals last night. Hernandez allowed three runs and five hits in his final spring outing before he pitches on opening day on March 31 against the Angels. He struck out six and walked none.

SEATTLE (AP) — Aleighsa Welch had 21 points and 11 rebounds, Tiffany Mitchell added 20 points and 10 boards, and top-seeded South Carolina used its size and athleticism to overwhelm No. 9 seed Oregon State 78-69 last night in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Jamie Weisner led Oregon State (24-11) with 21 points.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Tobias Harris had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and the Orlando Magic beat the Portland Trail Blazers 95-85 last night to stop a nine-game losing streak. Nik Vucevic added 22 points and 10 boards for the Magic. Robin Lopez led Portland with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers have sent rookie Allen Crabbe to the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League. General Manager Neil Olshey made the announcement yesterday. The 21-year-old guard has played little for the Trail Blazers, averaging 2.1 points in 14 games. He appeared in three games for the Stampede earlier this month, averaging 16.7 points and 5.3 rebounds. The former California Golden Bear was the 31st overall pick in last summer’s NBA draft.
