GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – A deal to share scarce water between ranchers and the Klamath Tribes has cleared another hurdle on its way toward becoming part of a bill in Congress to overcome a century of fighting over water in the Klamath Basin. Parties announced they have finished negotiations to overcome last summer’s irrigation shut-off to cattle ranches in the upper Klamath Basin after the Klamath Tribes exercised newly awarded senior water rights to protect fish.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon House has voted to give cities and counties the power to ban medical marijuana dispensaries, but only until May 2015. The bill is a compromise after a proposed permanent ban faced strong opposition in the state Senate. Some jurisdictions have already passes legislation banning medical marijuana businesses.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon legislator says he chased down a drunken driving suspect who sideswiped his car on Interstate 5. Rep. Greg Smith of Heppner says he was driving with his family when a speeding car hydroplaned and struck his vehicle. He caught up with the driver at a fast-food restaurant and held him until police arrived.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Nicolas Batum had 14 points and a career-high 18 rebounds as the Portland Trail Blazers routed Atlanta 102-78 last night. Portland has won six of its last seven games while keeping pace as one of the teams battling for the top four seeds in the West.
