DENVER (AP) – Damian Lillard made up for the absence of fellow All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge by scoring 31 points in the Portland Trail Blazers’ 100-95 win over the Denver Nuggets last night. Lillard scored 12 in the third quarter when it looked as if the Blazers were headed for a blowout win, but he saved his biggest shots for late in the fourth after the Nuggets had trimmed an 18-point deficit to two.
PHOENIX (AP) – Kevin Love fell one assist shy of his second triple-double in three games, and the Minnesota Timberwolves used a late outburst to beat the Phoenix Suns 110-101 last night. Love, whose first career triple-double came at Utah on Saturday, had 33 points and 13 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who trailed by eight with 7:57 to play, then outscored the Suns 24-6.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – James Harden scored a season-high 43 points before resting for all of the fourth quarter, and the Houston Rockets routed the Sacramento Kings 129-103 last night. DeMarcus Cousins had 16 points and six rebounds for the Kings.
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) – Seattle Mariners third base coach John Stearns will be out for the next four to six weeks after undergoing surgery for a hiatal hernia. Manager Lloyd McClendon said ysterday morning that Stearns had successful surgery at Arrowhead Hospital in Peoria on Monday. McClendon said the team is still discussing internal options for filling in for Stearns as third base coach while he is recovering.
