BOSTON (AP) – After putting only five shots on goal in the first period, the Boston Bruins took aim against Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo in the second and third. Three of their shots got past Luongo and although only two of them counted for goals, that was more than enough offense for the Bruins to beat the slumping Canucks 3-1 last night.
SEATTLE (AP) – A few hundred thousand people are expected to descend on downtown Seattle for the Seahawk’s Super Bowl victory parade today. Seattle Mayor Ed Murray says his office estimates about 300,000 fans coming to celebrate with the team as it parades down Fourth Avenue. The parade will start at 11 a.m. and go from Denny Way to CenturyLink Field.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) – Brent Sass is holding on to the lead in the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race, leaving the Eagle checkpoint first. The musher reached Eagle at 3:55 a.m. yesterday, leaving four hours later after a mandatory rest. According to the live tracker on the website of the 1,000-mile race, defending champion Allen Moore arrived at Eagle slightly more than two hours after Sass. He left the checkpoint at 10 a.m. The race will end near Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.
SEATTLE (AP) – Logan Morrison and the Seattle Mariners have reached agreement on a $1.75 million contract for the 2014 season and avoided arbitration. The team announced the agreement yesterday. This season will be Morrison’s first with the Mariners after being acquired in a trade with Miami during the offseason.
