VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and Brandon Saad each had a goal and an assist in the second period as the Blackhawks beat the Canucks last. Marian Hossa also scored in the second period for Chicago and Saad added an empty-netter late. Corey Crawford made 29 saves. Chris Higgins and Tom Sestito scored for Vancouver, which lost its second straight.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) – Sam Dower Jr. made a game-winning 3-pointer with 1.9 seconds left and finished with 12 points as Gonzaga avoided its first loss at Santa Clara since 2001, with a 54-52 win last night. Gary Bell Jr. scored 15 points, highlighted by making three 3-pointers in a little over 5 minutes late in the second half, for Gonzaga (19-3, 9-1 West Coast Conference).

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Kruize Pinkins scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds as San Francisco posted its third-straight conference win with an 84-71 victory over Portland last night. Portland’s Alec Wintering led the Pilots (12-10, 4-6) with 15 points and five assists.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) – Warm weather is forcing changes to the start and finish of the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports unseasonably warm temperatures has made ice on the Chena River in downtown Fairbanks too unstable to have the race start there Saturday. Instead, crews will truck in snow for the race to start on Second Avenue.
