DALLAS (AP) – Jamie Benn and Colton Sceviour scored goals 15 seconds apart in the first period last night, leading the Dallas Stars to a 4-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks lost on the road for the second time in three nights, following a seven-game winning streak. At 4:34 of the first period, Benn lifted a shot over Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo on assists from Seguin and Cole.

SEATTLE (AP) – Deja McClendon had 11 kills and 13 digs, Micha Hancock added 39 assists, and second-seeded Penn State swept No. 3 Washington 3-0 last night in the NCAA volleyball tournament semifinals, ending the Huskies’ hopes of winning a national title at home. The five-time champion Nittany Lions dominated from the start, winning 25-14, 25-13, 25-16 to advance to their ninth title game. Krista Vansant had only seven kills for Washington after setting a tournament record with 38 in the regional final against Southern California.

SEATTLE (AP) – Ellen Chapman had 17 kills, Deme Morales added 14 – including the final two points – and 12th-seeded Wisconsin upset top-seeded defending national champion Texas 3-1 in the NCAA volleyball semifinals last night. Wisconsin took control early and held off the Longhorns. Wisconsin will play No. 2 Penn State in the championship match tomorrow night.

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Sounders and forward Kenny Cooper have reached a contract agreement for the 2014 season. The Sounders announced the signing yesterday. Terms of the deal were not released by the club. Seattle acquired Cooper last week in a trade with FC Dallas in exchange for midfielder Adam Moffat.

SEATTLE (AP) – Washington assistant coach Tosh Lupoi says allegations he broke NCAA rules by paying for a football recruit’s online classes and tutoring are “untrue attacks.” In a post on his Twitter account yesterday, the Huskies’ defensive line coach said: “I look forward to an honest & thorough investigation.” Washington confirmed on Wednesday that it is looking into allegations of recruiting violations first reported by the Los Angeles Times.
