The Cardinal held off a furious late-game rally by the Ducks last night, but ultimately it was smash-mouth football that won the day as Stanford downed Oregon 26-20.  Tyler Gaffney ran for 157 yards and number six Stanford hammered number 2 Oregon for three quarters, jumping out to a 26-nothing lead and crushing the Duck’s national title hopes for the second straight season.

Kevin Hogan played a mistake free game for Stanford and the Cardinal put on a clinic in how to play keep-away from a team that was averaging more than 55 points a game.

On the schedule…

The Siuslaw Vikings and Reedsport Braves are on the road for playoff football.  Siuslaw is in Gladstone tonight where they’ll face the Gladiators at seven.  Airtime on Coast Radio Sports is at 6:45.  Reedsport is at Heppner where they’ll take on the Mustangs tomorrow at one o’clock.

By the way… no Beaver football this weekend… they have an opening in the schedule and will return to the field next week in Tempe, Arizona against Arizona State… the Ducks will host Utah.
