THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) – The police chief of The Dalles says one of his officers was shot and wounded last night while conducting an investigation in Wishram, Wash., with other law enforcement officers. Chief Jay Waterbury says a suspect is dead, and his officer did not suffer life-threatening wounds. Waterbury says Klickitat County sheriff’s officers and Oregon State Police were also present in Wishram, which lies across the Columbia River from The Dalles.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Murder charges have been filed against a 17-year-old arrested with his 19-year-old cousin after a high-speed chase in a car belonging to the younger man’s Portland-area great-grandmother. The Oregonian reports that Joda Cain was charged as an adult after a grand jury indicted him on a murder count in the Oct. 5 slaying of 71-year-old Jacqueline Bell. The cousin, Micus Ward of Kansas City, has also been charged with murder. The two are accused of killing the woman in the course of robbing her.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters say students were briefly evacuated from Lawrence Hall on the University of Oregon campus after an ember caused a fire in the building’s exterior duct work system. Fire officials tell The Register-Guard that last night’s fire apparently started with a student cutting a piece of wood in a woodshop. A spark or ember floated onto exterior heating and ventilation duct work.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Damian Lillard scored 22 points and Mo Williams came off the bench to add 17 to help the Portland Trail Blazers rally to a 99-92 victory over the Utah Jazz in a preseason game last night.
