Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) – Brad Peacock gave up one run in six innings and Chris Carter singled in two runs to lead the Houston Astros to a 6-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners last night. The Astros – who have the worst record in the majors – won all three games in Seattle for their third sweep of the season, and first since early June. In the lone bright spot for the Mariners, Kendrys Morales hit the 100th home run of his career. Seattle has lost four straight at home and starts a 10-game trip on Friday.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Pete Carroll is hopeful the Seattle Seahawks will get starting cornerback Brandon Browner back for Sunday night’s NFC West showdown with San Francisco. Carroll said yesterday that Browner continues to recover from a hamstring injury suffered last week. Browner was expected to run yesterday and, barring any setbacks, go through practice today.

SEATTLE (AP) – It took only a matter of seconds for quarterback Keith Price to process all the information he needed to operate No. 19 Washington’s new fast-break offense in the season opener against Boise State. It was an eye-popping performance with the Huskies playing faster than at any other point in coach Steve Sarkisian’s time at the school. Potentially scary for future opponents, beginning with Illinois on Saturday, the Huskies believe they can be even faster.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – The University of Alaska Anchorage has hired a new athletic director. Vice Chancellor Bill Spindle announced Wednesday the university has hired Keith Hackett, who has worked for nine years as senior associate athletic director for internal affairs at the University of Nevada. Spindle replaces Steve Cobb, who was fired in May following questions over the university’s handling of a 2011 incident in which a former hockey coach struck a player with a hockey stick during a practice.
