OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon City couple who prayed for
their ailing prematurely born son rather than seeking medical care
has been found guilty of felony manslaughter. A Clackamas County
jury was unanimous in its verdict of second degree manslaughter
yesterday against 26-year-olds Dale and Shannon Hickman. The
Hickmans are members of the Followers of Christ Church. The boy,
David, died within nine hours of birth in 2009.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Salem woman has been charged with robbery
after giving cash to a man outside a pet store, then demanding it
back at gunpoint. The Statesman Journal reports that 26-year-old
Meghan Fleming now faces robbery charges. Police say that after
giving money to the man, she changed her mind and drove back to
where the man was and demanded the cash using what turned out to be
an Airsoft pellet gun. Police say she did so in front of her
children. Her 19-year-old nephew also allegedly demanded the cash
and is considered an accomplice.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An armed man who surrendered to police
early yesterday in Portland had 12 guns, 2,000 rounds of ammunition
and body armor in his apartment. John Griffin had been reported for
bizarre behavior in the past week, and late Wednesday, he
reportedly leaned out a downtown apartment window and pointed a
rifle at a woman. Officers closed off the area while negotiators
talked with him by phone. He came out several hours later.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Flags at all Oregon public institutions will
be flown at half-staff today in memory of a soldier killed in
Afghanistan. Thirty-five-year-old Army Master Sgt. Danial Adams, of
Hillboro, was killed in Wardak, Afghanistan, on Sept. 13 in an
insurgent attack on his unit. Adams was assigned to the 1st
Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group in Stuttgart, Germany. Gov.
John Kitzhaber ordered flags at half-staff from sunrise to sunset
today.
