OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Nick Franklin homered and drove in three runs and the Seattle Mariners rallied from a four-run deficit to beat the Oakland Athletics 7-4 last night. Brad Miller and Kendrys Morales also drove in runs for the Mariners, who won for just the third time in 53 games when trailing after seven innings. Franklin left the game after the top of the eighth with a left knee laceration.
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) – Austin Oh drove in two runs to cap a six-run third inning in leading Sammamish, Wash., to a 6-5 win over Nashville, Tenn., in a Little League World Series elimination game last night. Jack Carper, Dalton Chandler and Will Armbruester each had RBI singles that put Sammamish ahead 6-2. The Washington team had six of its eight hits in the third. The Northwest champion advances to a matchup tomorrow against Chula Vista, Calif., or Westport, Conn.
SEATTLE (AP) – Temeka Johnson scored nine of her 18 points during a key eight-minute stretch in the second half and the Seattle Storm beat the Los Angeles Sparks 77-57 last night. Tina Thompson added 17 points as the Storm outscored the Sparks 14-4 in the fourth quarter. Seattle lost starting forward Shekinna Stricklen to an Achilles injury midway through the second quarter.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Offensive lineman John Moffitt has been traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos after his original trade to Cleveland was voided by the Browns. The Broncos announced the trade on Tuesday afternoon. Seattle will receive defensive tackle Sealver Siliga in exchange for Moffitt.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State coach Mike Riley isn’t ready to name his starting quarterback just yet. Sean Mannion and Cody Vaz both had starts last season and are competing for the starter’s job this fall. Riley said last week he might have a decision by the weekend, but Sunday passed without an announcement. Yesterday, he told a reporter he had no news.
