Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

UNDATED (AP) – The Seattle Mariners are in Boston this afternoon to start a three game series with the Red Sox. Joe Sanders is scheduled to take the mound for the Mariners. The Mariners defeated the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, 6-4. The Mariners closed their clubhouse before the game for a brief visit from manager Eric Wedge, sidelined after a mild stroke July 22. He has missed seven games and will skip the upcoming six-game road trip.

SEATTLE (AP) – Outfielder Michael Morse has been recalled from his rehabilitation assignment by the Seattle Mariners and veteran outfielder Jason Bay has been designated for assignment. The Mariners made the moves yesterday before opening a six-game road trip at Boston and Baltimore.

LATROBE, Pa. (AP) – In the span of a year, David Paulson has turned from a raw seventh-round project from Oregon into an impact player for the Pittsburgh Steelers. With Pro Bowl tight end Heath Miller out indefinitely as he recovers from knee surgery, Paulson will play a larger role in the Steelers’ passing game this season.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – The Olympic Club in San Francisco will host the inaugural men’s U.S. Amateur Four-Ball championship, and Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on the Oregon coast will hold the first women’s event in 2015. The USGA said earlier this year it was getting rid of the U.S. Amateur Public Links competition in favor of the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship to meet what it says is a trend at the state and regional level.
