SEATTLE (AP) – Kyle Seager had three hits, Mike Zunino drove in the go ahead run for the second straight night, and the surging Seattle Mariners won their eighth straight with a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians last night. Seattle took advantage of defensive miscues by the Indians and received solid pitching to extend the longest current win streak in baseball. Seager had an RBI double in the first, an inning that was kept alive by a Cleveland error. He singled and scored the tying run in the third.
SEATTLE (AP) – Mariners manager Eric Wedge missed his second straight game, a day after suffering a dizzy spell during batting practice that landed him in the hospital. Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik (zur-EHN’-sihk) said before yesterday’s game against Cleveland that Wedge would spend another night in the hospital while doctors try to determine the cause of his dizziness. Wedge spent Monday night at a hospital and visited with the GM yesterday, but doctors wanted to continue tests.
SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Mariners have recalled right-hander Erasmo Ramirez to start against the Cleveland Indians. The expected roster move was made official on Tuesday, with Ramirez set to make his second start of the season Tuesday night. Ramirez was recalled from Single-A Everett, where he was sent so he could make a start during the All-Star break on normal rest.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks have added depth at a position of need by signing former Atlanta tight end Michael Palmer just two days before the start of training camp. The Seahawks made the roster move yesterday. The team released undrafted rookie defensive back Ray Polk to clear a roster spot.
NEW YORK (AP) – The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended FC Dallas forward Eric Hassli for one game and fined him for violent conduct in a game at Montreal. Also, Portland Timbers defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste was fined for “embellishment” in the 18th minute of Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Union.
