HOUSTON (AP) – Nick Franklin hit his first career grand slam in Seattle’s big second inning to back up a scoreless start by Felix Hernandez, and the Mariners rolled past the Houston Astros 12-5 yesterday for their season-best sixth consecutive victory. Brad Miller, Dustin Ackley and Michael Saunders drove in two runs each to help the Mariners wrap up a three-game sweep.

SEATTLE (AP) – Alana Beard hit a jumper with 10.2 seconds left to give the Los Angeles Sparks a 65-64 win over the Seattle Storm on Saturday. Nneka Ogwumike (ah-GWOO’-mih-kay) tied a season high with 24 points and had nine rebounds to lead Los Angeles. Camille Little scored 22 to lead Seattle, which has lost four of five and seven of nine and fell to 6-10 overall.

SEATTLE (AP) – Seattle’s DeAndre Yedlin scored his first career goal five minutes after Colorado took the lead and the Sounders tied the Rapids 1-1 on Saturday. Drew Moor tapped in a goal off a corner from Nick LaBrocca to give the Rapids a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute. Nine Sounders players are injured, including regular goalkeeper Michael Gspurning.

CHESTER, Pa. (AP) – The Portland Timbers continued their strong play on the road with a scoreless draw against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday. The Timbers improved to 2-1-8 on the road and moved within three points of Real Salt Lake for first place in the Western Conference. Portland also pushed its all-time mark to 2-0-2 against the Union.
