Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A National Guard helicopter has rescued an
injured bow hunter in the Columbia River Gorge. Multnomah County
deputies say the 33-year-old Gresham man sent a text message to
friends yesterday afternoon that he had been injured in a fall
while hunting alone near the Moffett Creek trail. The Oregonian
reports the search began at 3 p.m. and he was found about 6:30 p.m.
by the copter.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon spends millions of dollars on state
contracts, and yet budget officials say their financial tracking
systems cannot show just how much was paid to private contractors.
A Statesman Journal review of contract data found awards to car
dealers, computer software companies, architects, psychologists and
country singers. Ken Rocco of the Legislative Fiscal Office says
state legislators sometimes request contract information from
agencies but that is mostly done case-by-case.

LONG BEACH, Wash. (AP) – It was a long time coming, but the
descendants of explorer William Clark have tried to make amends for
a 205-year-old theft. A descendant of the explorer in the Corps of
Discovery expedition that opened a land route to the West has
presented the Chinook Indian Nation with a replica of a canoe that
the corps stole in 1806. A five-hour ceremony on Saturday included
songs, gift exchanges and the maiden voyage of the replica canoe.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon political leaders and former staffers
are remembering Sen. Mark Hatfield as a devoted teacher and
courageous politician who managed to stay grounded despite five
decades in the public eye. Hatfield died last month at age 89. To
those who gathered at Oregon’s Capitol on Saturday, he was
remembered for an independent streak that stands in vivid contrast
to the partisanship now gripping Washington.
