Sandblasters cap tournament with victory

The Three Rivers Sandblasters won three straight games over the weekend, the final one a 9-5 victory over Humboldt County, California, to capture the tournament title at the Papa’s Pizza Invitational in Eugene.

The Blasters started the weekend with an 18-nothing loss to Toyota of Seattle on Friday;  then downed Portland’s Northwest Star 10-2 and the Eugene Challengers 7-3 Saturday evening to set up the final matchup against the Humboldt Sluggers.

Four Sandblasters players:  Ryan Smith, Jake Thompson, Josh Iabichello and John Dodson; went a combined 11-of-14 in that final game to account for most of Three Rivers’ 14 hits.

The Sandblasters are back to league play tomorrow afternoon for two games against Corvallis at home.

Emeralds Struggle in Spokane

The Eugene Emeralds were one-and-two in Spokane over the weekend… losing Friday 4-3 to the Indians before bouncing back for a 9-8 victory Saturday night.  They wrapped up the weekend with an 9-4 loss to the Indians yesterday… they’ll wrap up the five-game series this evening before coming home for a five-game homestand beginning tomorrow against Everett.
