PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s largest wolf pack has moved deep
into the state and into Washington, and the overall number of
wolves in Oregon is expected to climb after falling from 21 to 12.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s assistant wolf
coordinator, Roblyn Brown, says fluctuation of wolf numbers and
movement is normal.

TILLAMOOK, Ore. (AP) – A 43-year-old who drowned over the
weekend while surfing in Tillamook County has been identified as
Duncan Green McCowen, of Corbett. State police say McCowen was
surfing at Short Sands Beach on Saturday when other surfers noticed
his board flipped, found him unconscious and brought him to shore,
where they started CPR. He was flown to Tillamook County General
Hospital where he died.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon budget officials say state financial
tracking systems are not designed to quantify how much state money
is paid out to private contractors, and Senate President Peter
Courtney says legislative oversight of contracts has been lacking.
Ken Rocco of the Legislative Fiscal Office tells the Statesman
Journal that what is bought by contract compared to other
purchasing mechanisms is not broken down into specific detail.

SISTERS, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a 37-year-old Eugene
climber was killed when he fell near the summit of North Sister in
the Three Sisters Wilderness. Lane County Search & Rescue says
Brian C. Jones fell around 1 p.m. Saturday down the mountain’s west
gullies. His climbing partner witnessed the fall.
