PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The search continues on Mount Hood for Salem dentist Kinley Adams who failed to return Saturday from a climb. Bad weather and poor visibility forced volunteers to suspend yesterday’s search and they’re hoping for skies to clear today. An Oregon Army National Guard helicopter is standing by. Mount Hood is the tallest mountain in Oregon at 11,239 feet and a popular climbing destination.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Salem man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges in two home invasion robberies in Marion County. David Bartol pleaded guilty to attempted murder and robbery for a January home invasion in Salem where a man was shot. The Statesman Journal reports Bartol is awaiting charges in the fatal stabbing of a fellow inmate earlier this month in the Marion County Jail.

COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) — The Coos County sheriff’s office says a woman whose body was found Sunday near the Charleston Marina had been swimming alone earlier in the bay. She is identified in The World as 35-year-old Rebecca N. Carroll of Coos Bay.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon legislative committee has advanced a bill they say will meet a goal of curbing the state’s growing prison population within the next five years. The Joint Committee on Public Safety advanced the bill yesterday with one lawmaker dissenting. The latest version of the legislation includes a plan to reduce sentences established in 2008 for certain drug and property crimes.
