The Mail Tribune reports the six members of the board voted to uphold the dismissal of Donald Later, a retired Jackson County sheriff’s deputy. He was hired as a part-time campus monitor at Hedrick Middle School. He was fired for insubordination when he told the principal he intended to still carry a gun after permission was denied.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A body found in the water in a Salem ditch was identified yesterday as a 28-year-old transient, Lole Rubio Zendejas. Police say the body found Tuesday had been in the water from a long time. The cause of death remains under investigation.
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – A motorcycle rider who was struck by a car yesterday on Interstate 5 near Springfield had stopped under an overpass to take shelter from the rain. Oregon State Police say 58-year-old Terry Brateng of Dallas was walking near his motorcycle when he was hit. He was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield with critical injuries.
