SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon Senate committee will discuss Democratic proposals to increase state revenue and a Republican request to cut taxes for some business owners. A hearing set for today could help pave the way for a budget compromise that would end a weeks-long stalemate. Increased revenue and business tax breaks are two of three components debated during weeks of closed-door budget talks.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A legislative budget committee has signed off on a bill that would legalize medical marijuana dispensaries in Oregon. The Ways and Means Committee approved the bill yesterday, sending it to the full House for a vote. Medical marijuana retail outlets exist now in Oregon, but they operate in a legal gray area and run the risk of being shut down.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a father and son accused of sexually abusing a 6-year-old child at their Canby home in 2011. Sgt. Robert Wurpes said yesterday 61-year-old Duane Shottenkirk and 35-year-old Earnest Shottenkirk, were taken into custody late last week. Both men were charged with first-degree sex abuse, and the elder Shottenkirk is accused of distributing child pornography.

WILSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Thousands of dead and dying bees have been found in the parking lot of a shopping center in Wilsonville, Ore., southwest of Portland. Oregon officials say it appears blooming trees in the lot were recently sprayed with a type of insecticide known to be toxic to bees. According to The Oregonian, biologists estimate at least 25,000 bumblebees died.
