ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Kendrys Morales hit an RBI single in the 10th inning against his former team, leading the Seattle Mariners to a 3-2 victory against the Los Angeles Angels last night. Charlie Furbush faced only one batter to get the victory, striking out Josh Hamilton with runners at first and second to end the ninth. Kyle Seager sparked the winning rally with a two-out double in the 10th against Garrett Richards.

SEATTLE (AP) – Tina Thompson scored 30 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Seattle Storm to a 96-86 overtime win over the Washington Mystics last night. Tanisha Wright had five of her 17 points in OT as Seattle outscored Washington 18-8 in the extra period. Temeka Johnson added 16 points and Camille Little 15 to help the Storm snap a three-game Washington winning streak.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Tyson Gay is hardly giving his surgically repaired hip a second thought as he heads into the 100-meter race at this week’s U.S. championships. Gay’s aching hip was a constant source of concern going into the Olympic trials a year ago. Gay and coach Lance Brauman say he may be in his best shape in years and is considering running the 200 meters too.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – The University of Alaska Anchorage has picked Matt Thomas as its new hockey coach. Thomas was one of four finalists for the job and moves to Anchorage from minor league professional hockey. Thomas spent the last nine years in the ECHL, including the last four as coach of the Stockton Thunder.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – Virginia has hired former Oregon assistant Blake Miller as its softball coach. Athletic director Craig Littlepage made the announcement yesterday. Miller spent the last three seasons with the Ducks, helping to lead them to the super regional round of the NCAA tournament each season and to the College World Series last year.
