PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 28-year-old man who forced teenage girls to work as prostitutes and took the money has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison. The U.S. attorney’s office says Rashad Q. Sanders pleaded guilty to sex trafficking and transporting three minors. A 15-year-old girl told investigators that Sanders injected her with methamphetamine and persuaded her to work for him as a prostitute. At the sentencing, Sanders told the judge the girls are not victims and blamed them for his situation.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Police have arrested a former Transportation Security Administration employee indicted in a March 12 bank robbery in Gresham. Investigators say Trevor Lee Schindler was arrested yesterday at his home after several TSA employees identified him as the man visible in surveillance video from the robbery of a Wells Fargo bank branch.

REDMOND, Ore. (AP) – Fire officials in Redmond say a smoky, fast-moving fire raced through a business that uses wood shavings for animal bedding. KTVZ-TV reports that fire crews soon called for help last evening from other nearby agencies. The fire marshal says when crews arrived at JTS Animal Bedding, flames were shooting at about the roof line and soon broke through. Firefighters believe they were able to save the main office area.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Marion County sheriff’s deputies say an inmate has been hospitalized after an assault by another prisoner at the county jail in Salem. A spokesman said the male inmate injured yesterday afternoon was flown to a hospital in Portland, and an inmate believed responsible for the assault was being questioned as were other inmates who may have been witnesses.
