SAN DIEGO (AP) – Nick Franklin hit his first two big league home runs to give the Seattle Mariners a 7-1 victory over the San Diego Padres yesterday. OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Kimberlee Souza lined the first pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning over the left center-field wall to give Washington a 4-3 victory in yesterday’s Women’s College World Series opening game. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Washington rallied when Victoria Hayward lined a ball that slid under right fielder Brooke Thomason’s glove for a triple.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The Lady Vols beat the Gators 9-2 yesterday in the second game of the Women’s College World Series. Melissa Brown had a two-run double in Tennessee’s three-run first inning and Ellen Renfroe limited Florida to four hits and struck out nine. Tennessee will face Washington today.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks have signed their two remaining unsigned draft picks, cornerback Tharold Simon and offensive tackle Michael Bowie. The signings were listed on the NFL’s daily transaction report yesterday. Terms of the deals were not listed.

SEATTLE (AP) – Washington wide receiver James Johnson has retired from football due to a wrist injury, ending a once-promising career that was plagued by injuries. The school announced Johnson’s decision yesterday. Johnson injured his wrist during training camp last August and missed the entire 2012 season.
