RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks have likely lost defensive lineman Greg Scruggs for the 2013 season after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Scruggs underwent reconstructive arthroscopic surgery yesterday at the Seattle Surgery Center. Scruggs was a seventh-round pick out of Louisville in 2012 who ended up making the Seahawks roster.

NEW YORK (AP) – Chivas USA midfielder Carlos Alvarez was suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount by MLS yesterday for ‘violent conduct’ during a game last weekend. He was punished for kicking the ball at Peterson Joseph’s head while the Sporting Kansas City player lay on the ground Sunday. Alvarez will miss Sunday’s game against Portland and one other.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – The 2013 Las Vegas Bowl will be played Dec. 21 on a Saturday afternoon for the second year in a row. ESPN Regional Television and bowl officials announced yesterday the 22nd annual bowl will kick off at Sam Boyd Stadium at 12:30 p.m. PST. It will feature the top choice from the Mountain West Conference against the fifth pick from the Pac-12.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Golf Club will host the 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur. It will be the third USGA championship tournament held at the Portland Golf Club. The last was the 1999 Senior Amateur. Oregon has hosted the U.S. Women’s Amateur six times, most recently in 2008, when Amanda Blumenherst won the title at the Eugene Country Club.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Jordan Hasay is getting a makeover and it has nothing to do with her trademark down-to-there blonde hair. As her career with the Oregon Ducks comes to a close, Hasay is transitioning from the 1,500 meters to the 10,000 meters – with an eye toward the 2016 Olympics. She ran her first competitive 10K in March at the Stanford Invitational, finishing in 32:46.68.
