PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Fire officials in Portland say a tractor-trailer rig hauling a huge steel and concrete beam overturned on a bridge and a nearby car was crushed. KATU-TV reports that a worker steering the rear wheels of the giant truck jumped out yesterday and pulled a young woman from the crushed car. Both vehicles caught fire. The woman was treated for arm injuries.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Marion County sheriff’s office says a deputy shot a man yesterday afternoon during a confrontation in Salem. The victim was taken to a hospital. Oregon State Police are leading the shooting investigation. Lt. Gregg Hastings says the driver was arrested on outstanding warrants for burglary, theft, identity theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

SWEET HOME, Ore. (AP) – Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says a man has been arrested in the reported kidnapping and assault of a woman near Sweet Home. Mueller says 54-year-old Daniel Fred Schroeder has been arrested for investigation of first-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault. The woman says she was assaulted and held against her will over the weekend.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Police in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro have arrested a 14-year-old boy accused of setting a fire that injured his parents. Washington County Deputy District Attorney Mark Richman says the teen is accused of two counts of attempted aggravated murder, two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of first-degree arson. He’s due in court May 6.
