Siuslaw Track and Field standout Mack Marbas is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week. First he ran the 8th fastest time in the 4A ranks to win the 800 meters at last week’s Far West invitational in North Bend… it was his best ever time at that distance at 2-minutes; 1.53 seconds.  Then, Saturday at the massive Crater Classic he finished 2nd in the 3-thousand with a time of 9-minutes; 3.4 seconds.

Honorable Mention… Viking softball’s Alexandra Opitz who was two-for-two at the plate with one run scored in a Far West League loss to Brookings-Harbor.

Speaking of which… the Brookings-Harbor Bruins took both halves of a softball matchup against Siuslaw in Florence last night… winning game on 12-2 in six innings.  Game two was over in five innings with the Bruins on top 16-3.  Siuslaw will be back on the diamond at home this afternoon against North Bend at five.

Siuslaw Baseball is on the diamond… also against the North Bend Bulldogs… but they’ll be in Coos County for a five pm game.  That will air on Coast Radio Sports with the pregame show at 4:45.  The Bulldogs edged South Umpqua in two games yesterday, 9-5 and 12 -11 to remain undefeated in Far West play with six wins… the Vikings are in 2nd with a 4-2 record.

On the college diamond yesterday… Oregon State edged Seattle 4-3 in 14 innings… coming up today it’s Oregon and the Pilots in Portland.
