Kenneth Thrall hit his first homerun… a two RBI shot that gave the Vikings the lead in the 4th inning.  Then, in the top of the sixth, Josh Iabichello hit an RBI double to score the go-ahead run, breaking a tie and lifting the Siuslaw Vikings to a 3-2 win over Sutherlin in the two teams’ Far West League Opener.  Jake Thompson went the distance on the mound, throwing a no-hitter.   Siuslaw will host South Umpqua for two this Friday at Jiggs Dodson Field.

On the softball diamond, the Lady Vikings opened with a 12-nothing shutout loss to Sutherlin at home.  Lona Dengler was two-for-three at the plate with one stolen base for Siuslaw.  The Vikings will travel to Myrtle Creek Friday for a league double header against South Umpqua.
