OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Josh Reddick and Yoenis Cespedes (yoh-EHN’-ehs SEHS’-peh-dehs) gave Brandon Maurer a rude welcome to the big leagues by hitting two-run homers off the Seattle rookie that led the Oakland Athletics to an 8-2 victory over the Mariners yesterday. A.J. Griffin allowed two runs in six innings and John Jaso drove in a run against his former team as the Athletics won back-to-back games to earn a split of the series. Michael Morse homered for the third straight day for Seattle.

NEW YORK (AP) – The future home of the Kings may not be settled this month after all. With owners facing a difficult choice between a move to Seattle or the team staying put in Sacramento, NBA Commissioner David Stern says the expected vote in two weeks may be delayed. Stern says, “We’ve never had a situation like this.” A Seattle group led by investor Chris Hansen and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has a pending agreement with the Maloof family to buy 65 percent of the team and move it to the city the SuperSonics left in 2008. Sacramento has put together its own group to make a competing bid. Both sides presented their cases to a committee of owners Wednesday, leaving enough questions Stern says he doesn’t know when a decision will be made.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – Cory Schneider made 23 saves and Henrik Sedin (seh-DEEN’) had a goal and an assist for Vancouver in a 4-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers last night that moved the Canucks past Minnesota for first in the Northwest Division and third in the Western Conference. Schneider, making his ninth consecutive start, had to make just 12 saves through 40 minutes, but stopped 11 in the third for his fourth shutout of the season and eighth of his career.
