PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Mary Owen is recovering at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland from injuries she suffered while lost for nearly a week in the snow on Mount Hood. The 23-year-old George Fox University student told The Oregonian she was caught in a whiteout near the summit, became lost on the way down and fell about 40 feet, injuring a leg. She made a hollow in the snow, melted snow in a water bottle and survived on snack bars, crackers and ramen noodles. She was spotted Saturday by an Oregon National Guard search helicopter.

MOUNT HOOD, Ore. (AP) – The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says searchers found a missing Mount Hood skier dead last night west of the Ski Bowl resort. The sheriff’s office says the man was submerged in a creek. The 23-year-old man was with a group of skiers who had been drinking at a hut Saturday night. The man decided to head down the mountain alone. The sheriff’s office says the man was last seen by a group of campers who attempted to direct him to their location, but he never arrived.

CARLTON, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting near Carlton. Lt. Gregg Hastings says a person who was wounded last night has been treated and released from a hospital. KOIN reports the police agency involved and details of the shooting have not yet been released.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a man appears to have fatally shot himself yesterday afternoon following a traffic stop on Highway 126 west of Eugene. State police say a sergeant stopped a car for a speeding about five miles west of Veneta. As the sergeant got out of his car, the other vehicle sped forward, hit a ditch and crashed into a tree. Police say the man had apparently shot himself.
